02/02/1999: A remote triggered land mine exploded near a group of Russian soldiers in Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia. A civilian was killed and nearby buildings were damaged. No claim of responsibility was made, but authorities believed that Chechen field commander Ibn al-Khattab of the Chechen rebels was behind the attack.
