Incident Summary:

05/03/1999: Suspected Salafist Group for Preaching and Fighting (GSPC) members bombed a troop convoy and then attacked the government's forces with automatic weapons outside of Thiouarzedine, Algeria. The bomb exploded near members of a scouting party who were deployed in front of the main group. Then roughly 20 perpetrators fired at the members of the convoy with automatic weapons. Five soldiers and two policemen were killed in the attack.
