06/12/2000: Unidentified assailants opened fire on a market in south Mogadishu, Somalia, killing at least nine people and wounding 16 others. The attackers, who were traveling in a pick-up truck with a mounted machine gun fired indiscriminately at people in the market.

Additional Information Residents claimed that Bashir Raghe, a militia commander loyal to north Mogadishu warlord Ali Mahdi Mohamed, was responsible for the attack, possibly to avenge the death of two of his fighters in an ambush by their rivals on 06/11/2000.
