8/20/2000: Rebel forces ambushed a special services vehicle carrying five soldiers along Germenchug-Mesker-Yurt road, in Chechnya, Russia. Sergey Savelyev, the head of the Shali District Federal Security Service, was shot and killed in the ambush, as was another soldier. One source states that Savelyev was the intended target of the attack.
