9/21/2000: Iskander Khatloni, a reporter with Radio Liberty, was attacked and beaten with an ax near his home in Moscow, Russia. He suffered severe head wounds and died several hours later in the hospital. No one claimed responsibility for the attack and specific motive is unknown. However, before he was killed, Khatloni was involved in investigating human rights violations in Chechnya.
