10/15/2000: Hutu rebels opened fire on a vehicle carrying six people headed to Sunday Mass in Gihiza, Gitega, Burundi. One of the passengers, an Italian nun named Gina Simionato, was shot and killed in the ambush. A Burundi nun was also injured in the attack. The motive behind the attack is unknown.

Criteria 1

Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
