Incident Summary:

10/31/2000: Carlos Castano and other members of the United Self Defense Units of Colombia (AUC) took seven lawmakers hostage in Colombia. The hostage-taking was executed in order to protest President Patsrana's policy of negotiating with guerrillas, in general, and the plan to trade leftist rebel prisoners for captured troops and police, in particular.
