12/10/2000: Two United Nations military observers, Lieutenant Colonel Zbigniew Blechacz from Poland and Captain Eustathios Kokkinitis from Greece, were abducted while patrolling an area of the Kodor Gorge, Abkhazia province, Georgia. The captives were released in good health on December 13, 2000. No ransom was paid for their release and the motive behind the abduction is uncertain. No group claimed responsibility for the incident.
