Incident Summary:

2/10/2001: Islamic rebels attacked three families with machine guns in Berrouaghia, Médéa Province, Algeria. The assailants shot and killed 26 civilians in total, including 11 children, and burned three of the bodies. Local residents believe that the rebels would have killed everyone in the village had government soldiers not intervened. No group claimed responsibility for the incident.
