04/02/2001: Suspected Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) members attacked a Nepalese police checkpoint in Rukumkot, Nepal. Authorities listed 35 police officers as being killed and at least 14 wounded in the attacks. The rebels also took 23 policemen hostage, saying they would be released only after they promised to leave the force (outcome unknown).
