Incident Summary:
04/22/2001: At least twenty-one Chechen rebels stormed the Swissôtel hotel in Istanbul, Turkey, taking at least 104 people hostage. The proceeding standoff with police ended twelve hours, on April 23, 2001, later after the foreign minister of Turkey negotiated with the hostage takers for their surrender and the release of all the hostages unharmed. The hostages were mostly Western, including many Europeans and some Americans (unspecified).

Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
