Incident Summary:

06/08/2001: An airplane, a Transafrik Boeing 727, chartered by the World Food Program for transporting food to the Angolan Province of Moxico was hit by a missile while in the air at 15,000 feet, 18km from Luena City. The plane was preparing to engage in a sudden descent which is used by airplanes in areas considered to be too dangerous for normal landings. National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) claimed responsibility for the missile attack. The number of casualties were not mentioned in reports covering the attack.
