Incident Summary:

08/01/2001: A bomb exploded outside the Atrium Senen shopping center in downtown Jakarta, Indonesia. The intended target of the attack was a group of Christian worshippers gathered on the third floor of the shopping complex, but the bomb detonated prematurely injuring six people in addition to one of the assailants. Taufik Abdul Halim, who lost part of his leg in the explosion, was apprehended and convicted in connection with this and two other attacks targeting churches on July 22, 2001. Authorities indicated Taufik was affiliated with Kumpulan Mujahidin Malaysia and Jemaah Islamiyah, but he claimed to be part of a small group of Malaysian Muslims acting on their own.
