8/30/2001: Unknown perpetrators, believed to be affiliated with the Islamic insurgency in Algeria, set up a fake road block in Ras El Ain, Algeria. The assailants intercepted a vehicle and slit the throat of five individuals belonging to the same family. Additionally, the Islamic extremists abducted one of the family's daughters. The fate of the kidnapped victim remains unknown.
