Incident Summary:

12/13/2001: Five or six assailants attacked the Indian Parliament building in New Delhi, India with firearms and a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device. Before the assailants could detonate the explosives, fourteen people were killed in an exchange of gunfire, including eight security personnel, a gardener, and the five attackers. Authorities blamed the attack on Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

Additional Information Subsequent investigations revealed that five of the terrorists involved in the attack had arrived New Delhi several days before the attack. Arms and explosives were provided to them by their local contact in Delhi. Investigators believed that the group had planned to take hostage certain members of Parliament yet were unsuccessful with the scope of their attack.
