Incident Summary:

12/27/2001: Suspected Muslim rebels attacked the predominantly Christian town of Naga, Zamboanga de Sibugay province, Philippines. The assailants opened fire on the villagers, killing six of them in the attack. Soldiers and militia responded by returning fire, killing one of the attackers and wounding a second one. The dead gunman was identified as a former member of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). The gunmen fled, abducting another four villagers, who were found dead following the attack. In total, ten villagers and one assailant were killed.
