1/23/2002: Two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle shot Marcos Ayala near his office in Cali, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. He died later from his injuries while in hospital. Ayala was a photographer for the newspaper El Caleno; he specialized in social and sporting events while the newspaper specialized in crime reporting. No group claimed responsibility for the incident and the motive behind the attack is unknown.
