Incident Summary:

08/07/2002: Members of the New People’s Army (NPA), the military wing of the Communist Party of Philippines (CPP) ambushed policemen in the province of Kalinga in Lubuagan town, Northern Philippines. Three policemen were killed and one wounded.

Additional Information The attack came after exiled communist leader Jose Ma. Sison called on the New People's Army (NPA) to step up attacks in response to President Macapagal-Arroyo's order to redeploy more soldiers against them. However, Police Director George Alino contends Lubuagan Vice Mayor Corey Dickpus and robbery gang leader Willy Sagasag could also be behind the ambush.
