Incident Summary:

8/20/2002: Ten suspected members of the Salafist Group for Preaching and Fighting (GSPC) ambushed a National Gendarmerie patrol on a road near Réghaïa, Algeria. The assailants detonated a homemade bomb before throwing grenades and firing their automatic weapons at the gendarmes. One gendarme was killed and two others were wounded. The perpetrators stole three guns from the gendarmes as well.
