Incident Summary:

9/12/2002: Fifteen members of the Salafist Group for Preaching and Fighting (GSPC) set up a fake roadblock on National Road 5 and shook down Algerian civilians passing through M'rahnia, Algeria. The assailants intercepted an ambulance carrying a wounded Algerian soldiers and proceeded to slit the soldier's throat before ignited the ambulance on fire. When an Algerian military patrol arrived on the scene, the Islamic extremists remotely detonated a bomb before fleeing to safety. Three Algerian soldiers were killed by the blast and nine others were wounded.
