Incident Summary:

01/02/2003: A Muslim carpet-weaver was shot and wounded by suspected Muslim militants in the village of Sailya, near the well-known picnic spot of Pahalgam, 100 kilometers (62 miles) southeast of Srinagar, the summer capital. Before his death, the victim stated that the militants believed he was working with Indian troops stationed in Indian Kashmir.
