Incident Summary:

02/20/2003: At 9:45AM local time, Imaran Makalogi, age 17, attempted to detonate a bomb strapped to his stomach in a public market near the Spectrum Alliance Center in Kabacan town, North Cotabato Province, Philippines. He detonated at a small bookstore called Spectrum Merchandising inside the market. According to police reports, he detonated prematurely in the market, and killed himself and injured 10 nearby civilians. A Philippine Military spokesman said that local residents identities Makalogi as a Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) member. From evidence recovered at the site, the explosive device was a mortar shell wired to a timing device.
