Incident Summary:

4/21/2002: Members of Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) kidnapped several high profile figures during a peace march in Antioquia Department, Colombia. Those kidnapped included Guillermo Gaviria, the provincial governor; Gilberto Echeverri, a former defence minister; and Carlos Yepes, a chaplain. Four other prominent people were also kidnapped but were released shortly after. On May 5, 2003, Gaviria and Echeverri were killed, along with eight captive soldiers, during an army-led rescue attempt.
