Incident Summary:

05/14/2003: Two suicide bombers attempted to kill Chechnya's pro-Russia administrator Akhmad Kadyrov at a crowded Moslem festival in Iliskhan-Yurt, Chechnya. One of the suicide bombers successfully approached Kadyrov and detonated her explosive device. The explosive device carried by the second woman failed to explode. Kadyrov survived the attack, which left at least 18 people died, including four of his bodyguards, and 78 wounded. The Chechen warlord Shamil Basayev claimed responsibility for the blast.
