Incident Summary:

01/18/2004: An explosive device detonated in a car belonging to Aissa Dermouche, one of France's first Muslim prefects, in the city of Nantes, France. The explosive detonated in the middle of the night and no one was injured. No one claimed responsibility for the attack although right-wing militants were suspected. Dermouche was born in Algeria and had been named prefect of the eastern department of Jura only two days earlier.
