Incident Summary:
2/1/2004: Around seventeen perpetrators, believed to be affiliated with the Islamic insurgency in Algeria, set up a fake roadblock in Boulakharachef, Algeria. The assailants intercepted many vehicles, stealing money and cellular phones. The attackers also slit the throats of two individuals; one a prison guard and the other a pastry chef. Additionally, an Algerian soldier was also targeted but he was able to escape from the Islamic extremists.

Criteria
Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.
Criterion 2
There must be evidence of an intention to coerce, intimidate, or convey some other message to a larger audience (or audiences) than the immediate victims.
