Incident Summary:

04/08/2004: Eight South Koreans from the Christian Council of Korea, who were driving from Jordan to Baghdad, Iraq, were stopped by armed militants on a highway at a checkpoint about 90 minutes outside Baghdad. The perpetrators seized seven of the South Koreans and took their passports; one of the travellers, Kim Sang-Mi, escaped before being taken hostage. The militants had initially suspected that the hostages might be spies for the United States, but released them unharmed after nine hours in captivity.
