Incident Summary:

08/08/2004: Fereydun Jahani, an employee at the Iranian Consulate in Karbala, Iraq, was allegedly kidnapped by Islamic Army in Iraq (al-Jaish al-Islami fi al-Iraq), an Iraqi militia group. The Iranian diplomat was driving from Baghdad to Karbala at the time of the attack. The militia group later videotaped a bearded man identified as Jahani, showing various forms of identification, and accused him of stirring sectarian strife in Iraq. The video was shown on the Arab language Al-Arabiya television station.
