Incident Summary:

08/17/2004: Seven civilians were injured when a hand grenade thrown by a man riding on the back of a speeding motorcycle exploded in a crowd of people enjoying a free musical performance celebrating Indonesia’s Independence Day in Banda Aceh. Although no group claimed responsibility for the attack, Indonesian military officials believed that the perpetrator was acting on behalf of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM).
