10/24/2004: In Iraq, nearly 50 police recruits were ambushed and executed on a remote stretch of road outside the town of Mandali in eastern Iraq. The group of former al-Qaida front man in Iraq, Abu Mus'ab al-Zarqawi, claimed responsibility for the attack but the claim could not be verified.
