2/18/2005: Unknown perpetrators, believed to be affiliated with the Islamic insurgency in Algeria, ambushed a combined patrol of Algerian soldiers and municipal guardsmen on a search operation in Fadhala, Algeria. Four members of the Algerian security forces were killed and seven others were wounded.

Criteria
Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.

Successful Attack
Success of a terrorist strike is defined according to the tangible effects of the attack.
