Incident Summary:

09/02/2005: A remotely detonated bomb exploded in a pile of garbage in the southern Russian Republic of Dagestan as a group of engineers attempted to defuse the device. A serviceman was killed and five others wounded in the blast. Three people were filming the efforts to defuse the bomb, but fled the scene after the explosion. Policemen attempted to stop the three suspects while they were on the road to Khasavyurt near the Chechen border, but the suspects opened fire on them, wounding one policeman. One of the suspects was reportedly injured in the gun battle as well. No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
