Incident Summary:

01/17/2006: Jairo Romero Gonzalez, a regional politician and a candidate for mayor in the town of Yumbo, Valle de Cauca, Colombia, was assassinated along with two bodyguards in Cali. The two bodyguards were identified as Alexander Escobar Duque and Carlos Mesa Duque. Officials suspect right-wing paramilitary groups are responsible, and three suspected perpetrators were taken into custody.
