Additional Information This was the first attack deep inside Chad after incidents near the Sudanese border the previous days. The government has said rebel groups in Chad are actually mercenaries and militia working on behalf of the Sudanese government, a charge that Sudan denies. Many defectors from the Chadian army joined the revel group since the previous October to topple President Deby.
