Incident Summary:

04/23/2006: In El Kassa, Algeria, perpetrators detonated an improved explosive device (IED) in front of a van, causing significant damage to the vehicle. They then proceeded to fire upon the passengers of the van, killing nine municipal guards and one civilian. The attack also wounded eight other guards. No claim of responsibility was reported, but it was believed that the Salafist Group for Preaching and Fighting (GSPC) was responsible.
