08/22/2006: Suspected communist guerrillas took dozens of people, mostly schoolchildren, hostage after raiding a school in the southern Philippine city of Buayan. However, the hostages were released the same day. No group claimed responsibility for the kidnappings, but authorities believed the New People’s Army (NPA) was to blame.
