Incident Summary:

06/13/2007: Serge Maheshe, a Congolese civilian journalist working for UN-sponsored Radio Okapi, was killed by two unknown perpetrators firing small arms late in the evening as he boarded a UN-marked vehicle in Bukavu, Sud-Kivu Province, Democratic Republic of Congo. No claim of responsibility was reported.

Additional Information Maheshe, who was shot twice in the knees and three times in the chest, had previously been confronted by members of the presidential guard and Hutu rebels over the content of his journalism. Two Congolese solders were subsequently arrested for the shooting.
