11/05/2008: On Wednesday, the mayor of the town of Timezrit, Boumerdes, Algeria was killed by unknown assailants. The victim, Fateh Bouchibane, was abducted from his vehicle, which was later found burned near an intersection in Tifra. The motive of the attack is unknown and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, though authorities suspect Al Qaeda in the Land of the Maghreb (AQLIM) to have been involved.

Criteria 1
The act must be aimed at attaining a political, economic, religious, or social goal. In terms of economic goals, the exclusive pursuit of profit does not satisfy this criterion. It must involve the pursuit of more profound, systemic economic change.
