Incident Summary:

02/20/2009: On Friday morning in Bannang Sata district in Yala, Thailand, two military rangers were shot dead and beheaded by insurgents as they were patrolling a local road to give protection to teachers. The heads of Pte 1st Class Samanmit Pijit and Pte Piyasak Chuklaithai were left near their bodies. Some of about 20 ambushers sprayed bullets at the two while others opened fired at their fellow rangers to block them from providing any help. No group claimed responsibility.
