Incident Summary:

04/06/2009: On Monday morning at 0700 , a parked car bomb detonated near a row of grocery stores and restaurants in central Baghdad's Alawi neighborhood, killing six civilians and wounding sixteen others. The explosives were detonated remotely. No one claimed responsibility for the attack. It should be noted that this was one of several attacks that took place in Baghdad on 04/06/2009, and there was an assortment of speculation in regards to who may be responsible. Among those named in the speculation were Al Qaeda in Iraq and members of the Sunni Awakening Councils. The U.S. military later asserted that the attacks appeared to be coordinated by Al Qaeda.
