Incident Summary:

06/29/2009: On Monday morning around 0600, a homemade bomb planted outside a coffee shop in market in Kitanggo village in town of Datu Saudi Ampatuan in Maguindanao, Philippines, exploded prematurely, killing a would-be attacker and one bystander but missing its target — a military convoy that passed by unscathed. The bomb was hidden in a trash can in front of a coffee shop. The bomb was assembled from an 81mm mortar. Authorities suspected the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in the attack, but the group denied responsibility.
