Incident Summary:

08/14/2009: On Friday night around 2300, in Yambio, Western Equatoria State, Sudan, militants shot and killed Miriam Biringi, the Chairperson of the National Congress Party (NCP) Women's Desk, in her home. The motive for the attack was thought to have been rising election tensions between the National Congress Party and Sudan People's Liberation Movement. No material damage was reported and no group has claimed responsibility, but militia from Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLA) are suspected of carrying out the assassination. The Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLA) denies the claim of responsibility.
