08/30/2009: On Sunday, in the Lalgarh area of Midnapore, West Bengal, India, assailants fired upon and killed a local leader of the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) as he was returning to his residence. No group claimed responsibility, although it was widely believed the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) was responsible.
