Incident Summary:

05/19/2011: On Thursday morning at 0915, in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, India, two Special Police Officers, Sudhakar Munsi and Surendra Arjun Kothare and one Constable, Munsi Chukku Pungati, were killed when police were ambushed by Maoist forces. Eight to 10 militants were also killed during the attack. Reportedly, two police teams on a search operation discovered an improvised explosive device on the Tadgao-Bhamragad road and when they proceeded to the Bejur hillock the militants ambushed them. No group claimed responsibility for the attack, but it was suspected that the Communist Party of India-Maoists (CPI-M) were responsible.
