Incident Summary:

08/22/2011: On Monday, in the Nawa district of Helmand, Afghanistan, two Taliban militants on a motorcycle shot and killed an elder, identified as Yaar Muhammad, who was a local farmer and friends with members of the local government. After the militants killed Muhammad, the victim's two sons and several other civilians jumped the two gunmen and beat them to death with stones. The Taliban are suspected of being responsible for the attack, but a Taliban official denied that the Taliban were involved.
