Incident Summary:

01/18/2012: Assailants opened fire on Malian Army personnel in an attempt to take over Aguelhoc, Kidal, Mali. At least 36 people, including one soldier and 35 assailants, were killed in the ensuing clash. This was one of two related attacks in different cities in Kidal on this date. The Azawad National Liberation Movement (MNLA) claimed responsibility for the incidents. Sources also attributed the attack to Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and Ansar al-Dine (Mali).
