Incident Summary:

01/26/2012: Assailants opened fire on Malian Army personnel in an attempt to take over Lere, Timbuktu, Mali. There were an unknown number of casualties in the ensuing clash. This was one of two related attacks in different cities in Mali on this date. The Azawad National Liberation Movement (MNLA) claimed responsibility for the incidents. Officials also attributed the attacks to Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM).
