01/31/2012: Four United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs workers and two drivers were kidnapped from a tourist location in Mahwit, Yemen. The kidnapping tribe demanded the release of one of their members in custody. All six were returned unharmed on February 1, 2012.

Additional Information The six aid workers taken hostage were of Yemeni, German, Palestinian, Iraqi, and Colombian origin. They were released one day after being abducted after mediation efforts led by Energy Minister Saleh Samee were initiated. A seventh hostage, apparently unrelated to the United Nations members, was released as well, according to one source.
