Incident Summary:

03/11/2012: An assailant opened fire on civilians in Najiban village, Kandahar province, Afghanistan. At least 12 people were killed and six others were injured in the assault. This was one of two village attack committed by the assailant, United States Army Staff Sergeant Robert Bales, in the early morning hours of March 11, 2012. Bales was arrested later that day and admitted to being under the influence of steroids and alcohol at the time of the incidents. Bales pled guilty to multiple counts of murder in a military court on June 6, 2013 and was later sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
