06/01/2012: A suicide bomber detonated in Ghanikhel district, Nangarhar province, Afghanistan. The assailant was targeting North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) troops that were defusing an explosive device found on the roadside. The bomber detonated prematurely, killing himself but failing to injure anyone else. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the incident.
